Hello and Welcome! Pulse Hospital: where compassionate care meets medical excellence.

The primary functions of your lungs involve the intake of oxygen and the expulsion of carbon dioxide. When you inhale, air enters through your mouth/nose and travels into your lungs via the trachea (windpipe). The trachea branches into tubes known as bronchi, which penetrate the lungs and further divide into smaller branches called bronchioles. At the terminal ends of these bronchioles lie minuscule air sacs called alveoli. Lung cancers typically initiate in the bronchi, bronchioles, or alveoli. According to the Indian Cancer Society, Lung Cancer, now the second most prevalent cancer, contributes to 25% of all cancer-related fatalities. The early detection of Lung Cancer is crucial for improved treatment, thus mitigating associated risks. Here are seven signs to be vigilant about.

Chronic Cough
Respiratory conditions and lung-related illnesses typically manifest with a persistent cough, which can be either dry or accompanied by mucus. This cough tends to endure and may exacerbate over time.

Unusualness in Cough
In addition to a persistent cough, it’s important to be vigilant for the presence of rust-colored sputum or any signs of blood when coughing.

Difficulty in Breathing
Alterations or difficulty in breathing patterns during routine activities such as climbing stairs, walking, or exercising, which were previously manageable.

Chest Pain
Discomfort in the chest region tends to intensify with deep breaths, coughing, or laughter. This sensation may also extend to the shoulders and back. It’s crucial to observe whether the pain is persistent or occurs intermittently.

Unexplained Weight loss
Do not overlook a decrease in appetite or an unexplained weight loss, as these could be indicative of lung or other forms of cancer.

General Fatigue
Lung cancer can contribute to a reduction in red blood cells (RBCs) and, consequently, a decrease in oxygen levels in the blood. This can lead to overall fatigue or a persistent sense of tiredness and weakness.

Change In Voice
A hoarse voice, accompanied by a persistent and unusual cough, may be indicative of lung cancer. It is crucial not to dismiss these signs, and immediate consultation with a medical professional is recommended. Additionally, following the advice to quit smoking and consistently maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition and regular exercise, is highly advisable.
